5 Simple Ways To Be Healthier Today
‘Healthier’. It’s something we all want to be, right? We know the basics of how to get there, but our busy daily lives get in the way and matters aren’t helped by the sheer amount of information we receive via the media about the latest fad diet or fitness trend. To make your life easier, to help you to make better choices for your overall health and wellbeing and as time waits for no-one, we’ve taken the liberty of simplifying things down into five easy steps that you can start doing today.
Be active daily
Want to live well and for longer? Studies show that you’ve got to get moving, and you don’t have to spend half your day slogging away in the gym either – just ten minutes is enough to make a difference to your overall health. You know that saying “there’s no elevator to success, you’ve got to take the stairs?” Apply that literally. Take the stairs. Do jumping jacks in the adverts whilst you’re watching your favourite program. Complete ten squats whilst the kettle is boiling. Walk the dog. It all counts!
Drink more water
We’ve all heard it a thousand times, but for thousands of good reasons. Water boosts your energy levels by aiding your blood in transporting oxygen to your cells, flushes out toxins and impurities which helps to clear your skin, boosts your immune system and promotes weight loss by raising your metabolism and keeping you feeling fuller for longer. All with zero calories and for zero pennies, too! Need we say more? Drink up for a healthier, happier you – cheers!
Improve your sleeping habits
Waking up in the morning refreshed and ready to face the day, is there a better feeling? If you can’t remember the last time that happened, try cutting out sleep hormone-affecting blue light, e.g. your smartphone, laptop or television (it stimulates the mind and suppresses melatonin production) at least an hour before you intend to sleep, and opt for a few chapters of a book instead. If you find that stress affects the amount of good quality sleep you get each night, relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or guided meditation can result in lots of those precious Z’s!
Eat your vegetables
It’s simple – the health benefits of eating a diet that’s rich in vegetables are endless. Not only do they provide your body with the vitamins and nutrients needed for beautiful skin, hair and nails, but they possess the ability to help reduce the risk of life threatening chronic illnesses such as heart disease, certain types of cancer, obesity and type-2 diabetes. In a typical meal, try to ensure that half your plate is dedicated to veggies – you’ll feel fuller for longer with less fat and calories by consuming plenty of fresh, natural food that’s packed full of immune-boosting antioxidants. Aim to eat the rainbow – as many colours as possible!
